Childern Sick in Hawaii

This story is front page news in Hawaii right now.  Someone sprayed malathion around a school probably to control flying insects.  Malathion isn't really acknowledged as being terribly toxic  (relatively speaking) but it stinks, man oh man does it stink.  The kids were probably puking their brains out.

Students complain after pesticide spray

Advertiser Staff

Fire and rescue personnel are examining dozens of children this afternoon after a reported pesticide overspray in Waipahu.

About 20 students at St. Joseph School, 94-651 Farrington Highway, are complaining of dizziness and nausea, said Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Terry Seelig.

EMS officials said no one was taken to the hospital.

After being called, Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived and assessed the situation.

Officials believe that an overspraying of the common pesticide Malathion could be responsible for the complaints.

The officials still are trying to determine whether any of the students will require hospital treatment.
